José Luís de AQUINO

 

He was an organ student of Professors Ângelo Camin and Gertrud Mersiovsky and a  piano student of Alfredo Cerquinho. In Paris, he studied with Suzanne Chaisemartin. Prof. Aquino is a Bachelor of Organ from Faculdade Santa Marcelina, a Master of Music - Organ from UFRJ and a Doctor of Arts from USP.

He presented concerts and recitals in several countries. Noteworthy are the presentations at the Marcel Dupré Auditorium, the Cathedrals of Chartres, Dijon, Notre-Dame de Paris, the Patriarchal See of Lisbon, Brugges, Haarlem, Breda, Utrecht, Warsaw, Pompeii, Commo, Toledo, Morelia, Guadalajara, Munich, Brandenburg, Darmstadt, Freiburg and in the Basilicas of Santa Maria Maggiore, Saint Peter of the Vatican and of the Dormition in Jerusalem.

He was a professor at UNESP for 15 years and since 2002 he has been a Professor in the Music Department at USP. He received the APCA “Revelation” Awards (1986), Carlos Gomes - best instrumentalist of 1998, among others prizes.

In 1991, he recorded, at the São Bento de São Paulo Monastery, the CD entitled “Passacaglia e Fuga”, with works by Bach, Liszt, Camin and Reger. His discography includes works with choirs, as well as recordings of live recitals, both in Brazil and abroad. In 2010, the CD “José Luís de Aquino interprets Fúrio Franceschini” was recorded by the Paulinas-Comep label, recorded in the Basilica of the Santíssimo Sacramento in Buenos Aires and in the Monastery of São Bento de São Paulo.

From 1996 to 2002, he presented at the Rádio Cultura FM in São Paulo, the Toccata program, dedicated to the organ repertoire; he also presented the Musical Writing and Improvisation program on Rádio USP FM. He was part of the Music Commission of the Secretary of Culture of the State of São Paulo.
